Editorial policy

Our editorial process is designed to make the origin, limits and commercial context of our guidance easy to understand.

Research and sourcing

We prioritize installation instructions and technical information from manufacturers, official building and safety resources, and established educational publications. We compare more than one source when a general principle is presented. A manufacturer's rating is treated as specific to its product and stated test conditions.

Original value

We do not publish copied retailer descriptions, stitched-together summaries or customer-review compilations. Our value comes from original organization, decision logic, plain-English explanation and interactive tools. Product links are supplementary to the guidance.

Testing language

We never describe an item as “tested by us,” “hands-on” or “proven” without documented first-hand work. Research-based selections are labeled accordingly. We do not invent photographs, measurements or personal experience.

Updates and corrections

Material changes are reflected in the reviewed date. We correct factual errors when found and reassess recommendations when product instructions or relevant standards change. Readers can report an issue through the contact page.

Commerce independence

Advertising and affiliate income help fund publication. They do not allow a retailer or manufacturer to review or approve editorial conclusions before publication. Payment does not guarantee coverage. Sponsored content, if ever accepted, will be labeled clearly and kept distinct from independent guidance.

Safety threshold

We avoid simplified product recommendations for life-safety uses, structural alterations, electrical or gas work, overhead suspension, grab bars, climbing equipment and other situations where failure could cause serious injury. Those projects warrant authoritative instructions and qualified professional judgment.
